The Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET) in collaboration with other networks and groups is holding a gathering in solidarity with the Latin American & Asia Pacific struggles and resistances, which include Australian social movements who continue to battle tirelessly to reach justice and dignity for all those that suffer under and resist against neoliberalism. The Third Latin American & Asia Pacific Solidarity Gathering will take place next October 23, 24, 25 at Victoria Trades Hall, corner of Victoria & Lygon Streets, Carlton South, Melbourne – Australia

The Americas have a strong legacy of resistance. From the Mapuche struggle for land and autonomy against the neo-conquistadors to the successful fight to force Multinational corporations and the government in Peru to stop, for now, their attempt to destroyed ancestral lands in the Amazonia and just last month the Zanon tiles workers of Neuquén Argentina won the self management of their factory after 9 years of struggle;

Since 1996 April 17 has been declared by La Via Campesina “International day of Peasant's Struggles”. This day commemorates the slaughter by the Brazilian police of 19 peasants of the “landless” movement while they mobilized to get access to some land. 13 years later, the struggle for recognition of peasant rights remains a priority of La via Campesina.

The current crises (of finance, climate, energy, food and biodiversity) have highlighted the responsibility, fragility and absurdity of the liberal economic system.
