Bangladesh International Human Rights Day rallies

The National Garment Workers Federation organized a rally of garment workers named "Garment Workers Human Rights Protection Rally" in the capital city Dhaka. Several hundred garment workers participated in this with red flags. It was led by the president and general secretary of the NGWF, Amirul Haque Amin and Miss Safia Pervin. From the rally it urged the government and employers to protect trade union rights in the garment sector because this is a human right. Also mentioned though according to the law garment workers have the right to organize and bargain but that is not the reality. And it happens because of the weakness of the labour laws, absence of commitment of the government and anti-union attitude of the employers.

Iran - general strike Tuesday - Free May Day prisoners ?

There is being reported in the media a call - by the Opposition to the dodgy re-elected regime - for a general strike in Iran on Tuesday June 16th 2009.

" I think Iranian women have become canaries of the mind. If you want to guage a society and how free it is, you go to its women. Iranian women have really worked for their freedom this election. Look at their signature campaign - they choose a non-violent campaign to educate people inside and outside Iran about the country's repressive laws. They played an important role in the beginning of the last century in bringing about a constitutional revolution. In the beginning of this century, they will play a central role in changing society towards openness. " Azar Nafisi - Things I've been silent about

VICTORY The strike of the Iran Khodro workers to get their unpaid wages and convert temporary contracts to permanent ones ends in victory Last week the workers of Iran Khodro were successful with their glorious strike which started in the assembly hall and continued in the shuttle (body) hall and ended with the press hall strike. The workers’ immediate demands were payment of their unpaid wages (productivity and last year’s production record bonuses) and to switch workers on temporary contracts to contracts of the Iran Khodro Company itself.

Four years ago Antony Loewenstein began work on My Israel Question, a scathing critique of the occupation of Palestine. For a nice Jewish boy from Melbourne, it was a bold move. “Most of the vitriol around my work on Israel/Palestine comes from Jews, sadly, who simply refuse to accept their homeland is a rogue state that commits horrible wars crimes in the occupied territories.

Iran: Isfahan Steel workers stage symbolic hunger strike It is reported that workers at the Isfahan Steel Mill Factory have begun a symbolic hunger strike on February 28th 2009 which will continue for two weeks. According to reports from Iran, they will not have the meals served at the factory premises.
