Mexican Truckers Declare Strike Mexico, Feb 5 (Prensa Latina) Mexican transport workers confirmed on Thursday they will hold a national strike on February 16, urging the government to freeze fuel prices. The president of the Alliance of Autonomous Transport Workers, Jaime Soberanes, said five million workers from the sector will stop their activities that day to press the federal government cope with their demands. If no positive answer is made, the strike could drag out indefinitely, they warned. Soberanes stressed that the 75 percent reduction in the monthly adjustment in oil prices, announced last week by President Felipe Calderon, fails to solve the situation of transport workers, who have to face ever increasing prices. http://www.plenglish.com/article.asp?ID=%7BD59E9644-8DF1-4348-85CD-89C57BD80616%7D)&language=EN The postman who wants to deliver the end of capitalism M. Besancenot's old party, despite its workerist rhetoric, was mostly middle-aged and middle class. The new party to be born this weekend will be younger and will include some working-class, trade union activists but will be dominated by the "lost" generations of French middle-class youth who reject middle-class ideas – extreme ecologists, feminists and anti-globalists, people who are fiercely in favour of illegal immigrants or fiercely opposed to advertising. The NPA already claims almost 9,000 members. This is three times as many as the outgoing LCR, the most powerful of the many French Trotskyist groups, which will "dissolve itself" tomorrow to provide the organisational structure and the leader of the new party. Above all, the leader. The NPA – or whatever it finally calls itself – is unashamedly a vehicle for the personality and communication skills of the LCR's "spokesman" M. Besancenot. Le petit facteur (the little postman) with the clean-cut looks and jargon-free language was the political revelation of the 2002 and 2007 presidential elections. What if M. Besancenot has merely invented a new form of Trotskyist "entryism"? Trotskyist "entryists", or moles, disguised themselves as moderate members of mainstream parties. M. Besancenot is, arguably, trying to create a kind of "political entryism by an entire party". He has cleverly re-packaged radical politics for a disaffected, but non-ideological, age. more: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/the-postman-who-wants-to-deliver-the-end-of-capitalism-1545015.html |

France: What is the LCR’s New Anti-Capitalist Party? By Alex Lantier 5 February 2009
The Ligue Communiste Révolutionnaire (LCR) is holding a special congress on February 5-8 to dissolve its organization and, in its place, to found the New Anti-Capitalist Party (Nouveau Parti Anti-Capitaliste, NPA). According to the LCR's own documents, the NPA will renounce a socialist orientation to the working class and the revolutionary struggle for a workers government, while orienting itself to a broad political milieu including tendencies that explicitly oppose revolution. read more: http://www.wsws.org/articles/2009/feb2009/lcrc-f05.shtml
