High noon on Wednesday when the Student Housing Action Cooperative who have occupied 4 (previously empty for 3 years) buildings in Faraday Street Carlton near Melbourne University will face off with the Sheriff and his mean possee. NOTE I do support "political stands" when they are direct action like this: A stand-off between Melbourne University and student squatters is coming to a head, with a court ruling that the university has the right to evict the group. Nineteen students have occupied several university-owned terrace houses for four months, saying they are making a political stand for affordable housing. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/01/05/2459607.htm?section=australia But am not so keen on pollys - politicians - who want a blank cheque from me at elections for their 4 year term etc. more: Student Housing Action Cooperative 272 - 8 Faraday Street, Carlton, VIC Australia shachouse@gmail.com http://www.shacmelbourne.blogspot.com/ |

SHAC emergency rally 12 pm tommorrow Wed January 7th
The university won their case against SHAC in the supreme court meaning they can now order the police to evict us when they choose.
The university has given us a new deadline to get out 12 pm tomorrow (wednesday) .
We are not leaving and are calling on all our supporters to come to SHAC and help us resist eviction.
We do not know if the police will actually be coming on wednesday afternoon but we are going to hold an emergency rally out the front.
We are anticipating that a lot of media will be attending.
Please pass this message on to your networks.
If you want to help defend SHAC against eviction you are welcome to sleepover at SHAC, please byo bedding.
