40 years ago (1968) an article in the NYT cited a study predicting that in 20 years (1988), given the same level of productivity, the current standard of living of an average family of four would require half the labor time, 6 months, or a 20 hour week, and the biggest social problem would be what to do with all that leisure. That was long before the personal computer, cell phone, and all the other technological advances, and it was predicated on a single bread winner. Now it often takes two breadwinners working more than 40 hours a week at more than one job because no jobs are secure. Will you commit to finding a way to reduce the standard hours of work required for standard benefits and a liveable wage?
